The Zimm Twins had a wonderful time at their first Peterson Family Reunion this past weekend (July 10th & 11th) in Houston. We appreciate Cousin Jay and Gloria hosting the reunion this year, which marks the beginning of the 3rd 'round' of the Peterson Family Reunions.
Friday began with a nice drive down I-45. Much to Daddy's displeasure, we made a quick stop at the Collin Street Bakery and then again at the Outlet Mall in Conroe. We eventually made it to Houston and had a wonderful Italian dinner with our Family.
The Zimm Twins had met most of the Petersons in October, however, everyone was amazed at how fast Doug & Kate had grown. We enjoyed playing with Carmen and Aunt Barbara, Cousin Jayla & Alissa while Mom and Dad, Grandmommy & Granddaddy had a chance to eat!
Saturday, Daddy went with Cousins Jay, Doug, Russ, Uncle Adrian and others to the Horse Races! The Zimm Twins were hoping that Daddy would win enough for the College Savings Accounts... but no... just enough for a Coke at Happy Hour at Sonic! Daddy had fun!
While Daddy was out with the guys; Grandmommy, Granddaddy & Mommy took Doug & Kate on a history trip of Texas. We began at the Battleship Texas. It is a really big ship! Next we ventured across the street to the San Jacinto Monument. WOW, it is tall. The Zimm Twins were champs when we loaded in the elevator to make the 504 feet climb to the observation deck at the top. We were really high up there and the cars below looked very small... some how, Kate was able to spot a white car below and exclaimed, 'hi Daa Daa'. Interpretation; Daa Daa is what The Zimm Twins call their Great Uncle David. The car actually wasn't her Uncle David, but it was cute! Doug was amazed at the shell imprints on the walls of the monument.
After some time at the Monument, we traveled to Kemah Island for lunch at Laundry's. All Mommy wanted was a really good lunch of fried shrimp, so she ordered the Zimm Twins grilled chicken. As soon as lunch came, Kate began pointing at Mommy's fried shrimp. Kate ended up dipping and eating all the cocktail sauce and a little tarter sauce. She seemed to enjoy both dips along with 1 1/2 shrimp!!! Doug also ignored his grilled chicken and opted for french fries dipped in ketchup. Doug was a nice quiet gentlemen and dipped his own fries without making a peep. (Doug was however, amazed at the young 6 months old baby next to us!)
We ended Saturday with another great dinner at Jay and Gloria's. The Zimm Twins had a great time trying to get past everyone to climb the stairs. Great Uncle David, Aunt Linda, Michael, Kyle & Kara drove down for dinner and our Bi-Annual Family Photo. Doug ended up 'chillin' with Daddy on the swing in the backyard!
Sunday morning, while Kate and Daddy slept in, Doug, Grandmommy, Granddaddy & Mommy headed to breakfast with the family. Doug thought it was so funny to watch Uncle Adrian 'load up' on pop tarts. Doug really wanted to go back to Corpus with Alex and Lauren, but they have a busy rest of the summer. Maybe next year girls... right!
One side note from this weekend... the Petersons like to keep the same names in circulation. It was noted that currently we have 2 Alyssas, 2 Karas and 2 Dougs.... Kinda fun!!!!!!!!!
