The adventure began Saturday morning, Jan. 14th, having made it all the way to the bridge of I-20 and Hwy 360, Kate exclaimed, "are we to Abilene yet?" This question persisted for the next 150 miles! The first stop on our westward trek was in Eastland, Texas. The Zimm Twins were so excited to hear about "Old RIP", the horned toad that remained alive in the cornerstone of the Eastland County Courthouse in the late 1800's. Doug asked as we circled the Courthouse, "what is this?" And Mom explained, "it's a dead frog!" Actually, it is much more than a dead frog, at the time of RIP's death (due to natural horned toad causes), the County of Eastland, embalmed the toad and has placed him in a purple velvet casket behind glass. This is for everyone that visits Eastland to see (not to forget, visit the new DQ)!
Next stop, Abilene! Gmama was very excited to find a Kmart. This was not the Zimm Twins first Kmart visit, but after 2 hours shopping at the local Kmart, the Zimm Twins left upset not hear one blue light special announcement!!! The redeeming factor of the Kmart adventure was the quarter horses outside. Kate & Doug enjoyed 2 spins on the old fashioned quarter ride.
