Sunday afternoon, as the Zimm Twins played at home, suddenly Doug began crying. After a while, and attending Great Aunt Linda's Birthday party, it became apparent that Doug was in pain. A call to the after hours doctor, resulted in a trip to Cook Children's ER in Fort Worth.
A quick exam from the amazing ER doctor, Dr. Ota, found Doug had a Corneal Abrasion on his left eye. Doug's eye was dilated to help it heal, but for about 24 hours, Doug has two different size pupils! (look at the picture attached.) Mom was able to look through the glass and see the cut, in the middle of his eye. This occurred as Kate & Doug played, so likely, Kate hit Doug's eye.
The doctor said this is very common in little ones and Doug's eye should heal in 24-48 hours. We have an ointment that goes in his eye 4 times per day for 5 days to avoid infection. (Good Luck Mom & Dad, getting that medicine in his eye!!!!)
Cook Children's was amazing. Mom & Dad had Doug home within 1 1/2 hours of arriving at the ER. The staff was so nice and fast!!!
We will follow up with Dr. Raine Tuesday or Wednesday and with a Pediatric Optometrist in Fort Worth to assure there is no permanent damage.
Mom & Dad hope this is Doug's first AND last trip to the Emergency Room.
